What about Monk?

I eyed him closely and thought long and hard about what I was going to say. “Rain isn’t your type.” Maybe I could have said something more, but that would have been more than I was ready to say out loud.

“You know what my type is?” he asked.

I shrugged and grabbed a pen off my desk. I fiddled with it and clicked the end. “I think it’s pretty obvious what your type is.”

Monk held up his hand. “We need to talk about some other things before we continue this conversation.”

I rolled my eyes. “I got the hint that I need to wait to fire Rain. As much as I would love to kick her to the curb, I know I can’t.” I would have had to be stupid not to know what Monk was hinting at earlier. “Her skanky ass is safe for the time being.”

“Good. That just leaves Barracuda.”

“He’s back?” I asked.

Monk shook his head. “I fucking wish. I was gonna ask you if maybe something jogged your memory and you might have some idea where the hell he is. I know it’s a longshot, but I’m idle right now until I hear back on a deal that could hopefully help to shake him up.”

I threw up my hands. “I don’t have a clue, Monk. We were close for a time, but that was years ago. The guy Barracuda was a way different man than the one I knew when he left the clubhouse. I have to assume losing Leona brought back all his feelings from losing Charlene.”

“You knew about Charlene?”

I nodded. “Yeah. He told me about her. Fucking tragic the way things happened. When I heard about him and Leona, I was glad he had finally found someone.”

“And then she was dead just as quickly as they got together.” Monk sighed. “The fucking club is falling apart, and somehow, I’m the one who is supposed to put all of the pieces back together.”

“I think you’re doing a pretty good job, Monk.” He had been thrown headfirst into being prez, and he was keeping his head above water.

“Two members are missing, and you just almost died, Mitz.”

“Pfft,” I scoffed. “You still have six members, not including yourself. I think that’s a pretty good percentage. That’s a C+ in school.”

“My grade as a prez is a C+, huh?” he chuckled. “You think there is some way I could do some extra credit to get that grade up?”

“Find Tank, and you’ll shoot up to a B.” I winked and tossed a pen at him. “You’re gonna have to do the work, though.”

He snatched the pen out of the air and tossed it back to me. “I’m trying, Birdie.”

“Are you really going to call me Birdie?” I laughed.

Monk shrugged. “It fits.”

“Now, is that all you needed to talk to me about?”

Monk shook his head. “I think we need to go back to you knowing what my type is.”

Ugh. I was hoping that he would forget about that. “Your type is a backroad and your bike, Monk.
